Gym economics
Every gym owner knows the churn curve; few know recovery is one of the only amenities with public benchmarks for bending it. The numbers, the pricing models, and the programming that separates a used tub from an expensive planter.

Demand first: sports-recovery bookings on ClassPass grew +155% since 2024, and 'Nordic' sauna-plus-plunge formats grew +62% globally in a year. The market agrees: recovery services are projected to grow 12.4% a year through 2035 (Future Market Insights), and 81.3% of cold plunge tubs are bought by commercial facilities (Grand View Research) - this is a B2B amenity wave, not a home-gadget one.
US chain Fitness Premier priced a recovery-inclusive tier about $20/month above base - and ~30% of new members chose it (Athletech News, 2024). No Indonesian chain has published equivalents yet; in our projects the working pattern is Rp 100-200 ribu/month tier premiums or Rp 50-150 ribu per session, with tier-inclusion winning long-term (see the Jakarta gym case).
| Model | Pros | Cons | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier inclusion | predictable MRR, upgrade story | needs volume | clubs, chains |
| Per-session | zero-risk trial, walk-in money | queues at peak | boxes, studios |
| Hybrid | tier + guest passes | front-desk discipline | most venues |
| Free perk | member delight | leaves revenue unbuilt | premium-priced clubs |
Home-grade equipment dies in commercial churn - that is not a sales line, it is why 'commercial' is a duty rating. Our corners run chillers holding ±0.3 °C under back-to-back entries, tubs with filter-plus-ozone hygiene sized to session count, and surfaces that take daily disinfection. Start small - one tub, 6 m², ~Rp 90 juta installed - with power stubbed for stage two; the gyms page maps formats to gym types.
Industry aggregate says ~20% of members where recovery exists. Programming moves it: clubs whose coaches prescribe plunges see the habit loop; clubs who install and hope see planters.
Rp 50-150 ribu is the band we see working Bali-to-Jakarta; position against your class pricing, not against boutique recovery studios.
A lidded 400 L tub: about Rp 214 ribu of electricity. Add consumables and a service plan - total stays in low single-digit juta for a corner.
Cold-first for boxes (sharper differentiator, smaller footprint); the pair for premium clubs - the circuit is what justifies tier pricing. The sizing guide helps pick the cabin.
